About
Our ekphrastic microfiction workshops are online and asynchronous, so you can join us from anywhere in the world when it's best for you. We use a range of word prompts, assignments, and visual art prompts and anecdotes from art history that reflect the theme. There are always a range of ideas and images so that you can choose what inspires you most. Participants write and share a microfiction story each day, and connect with other writers to exchange comments and ideas. Meg and Lorette provide supportive and critical feedback for growing your story beyond your day's draft.
You do not have to have a background in art to participate or enjoy these workshops. The prompts are a point of inspiration and departure and your story can be about anything, depending where your imagination takes you. Some will write stories directly from the scene or situation depicted, and some will use the themes, symbols, colours, and more as a diving board. Our workshops are perfect for both new and experienced writers. We aim to encourage you to experiment, create, and craft from wherever you are starting. We love to challenge you while offering a supportive and safe environment to grow your craft.
Most of our writers go on to publish many of their stories in wonderful literary journals after these workshops!
